Canon Marauders meet Fanon Marauders
“I will kill him, James. I simply have to kill him. It’s a duty at this point,” Sirius whispers, at breakfast.
James is morally opposed to murder, to say the least, but now when he opens his mouth to automatically tell Sirius he can’t kill people, the Abomination walks into the Great Hall, and James closes his mouth, with a sigh.
He condones it.
“Can you kill me, too, please?” Remus asks, as he watches his counterpart walk behind the Abomination.
“Oh, come on! The Other You isn’t so bad.”
“They’re all bad,” Peter mutters. “Just unbearable to watch.”
They’ve only arrived in this cursed universe the day before, but it’s already too much to suffer.
When Sirius met this universe’ version of himself, he had to be restrained from committing unspeakable violence.
“What’s with the pranks?” James wonders. “Look, they’ve only just entered the Hall and they’ve already pulled a few pranks.”
“You call those pranks?” Sirius sneers. “Those lame jokes?”
“They probably take the ‘prankster’ label too seriously,” Peter bemoans. “And I’m missing again. It’s like I don’t even exist here, like those guys forget I’m their best friend.”
After the Other Sirius, Other Peter was done the dirtiest. He’s much uglier than the real one, far shorter, and so stupid Sirius thinks he shouldn’t even be allowed to attend school.
Not that Other Sirius is smart- oh, no. Other Sirius is a moron, apparently allergic to books.
Remus got an upgrade- he’s now a wise genius to rival Dumbledore, and he spends his days giving people chocolate frogs.
It’s a wonder the Abomination is so thin, with how much chocolate he’s getting from Other Remus.
So thin and short.
“Why am I short?” Sirius growls. “I don’t know mate, it’s like the creator of this universe misremembered our heights and switched them around,” Remus offers, watching his other self, a very tall bastard. He’s even taller than Real Sirius.
Outrageous.
“I could suffer you short,” James says. “But look at him, he’s - why is he so…is that ...nail polish? Gods, what have they done to my Sirius!”
“I asked him if he still has the bike,” Peter whispers. “He said he does, but I mean- he’s so fragile and dainty, how does he even manage that monster bike?”
Sirius shakes his head in horror. “I have to kill him, there’s no way around it.”
The Other Sirius whines in the distance. “MOOOOONY,” he pouts, and that's it, Sirius stands-
“Not here,” James pulls him by his sleeve. “You can’t have witnesses.”
(-)
It takes them a few days to figure out what’s wrong with Other James. At a first glance, he looked normal, compared to the others. Almost unchanged from his real version, if only stupider. But not as stupid as Other Sirius and Other Peter, of course.
A chicken wouldn’t be dumber than those guys.
When they do figure it out, James throws up.
“There, there,” Sirius pats his back. “Breathe, mate. Breathe.”
“I’m fucking your brother! Your brother, Sirius!”
“Oh, no, that is not my brother. That is Other Brother.”
This version of Regulus is apparently not a bigot at all, it’s all just a big misunderstanding. He’s an Animagus, too, somehow.
Sirius actually thinks Other Regulus is an alright lad- nothing like his brother, mind you, but alright, in general.
James throws up again. “Me! With Regulus Black! I’m not even gay! I love Lily, and she loves me-”
“Well, apparently she’s gay, too, in this world.” Remus says, which only makes James cry.
That isn’t so bad, really. Many things are wrong with this universe, but Lily and Dorcas look hot together. Sirius had a wank thinking of them the other night. It’s fine, he tells himself. He’s not betraying James. This Lily is nothing like their Lily back home. This one is like a goddess of beauty here, hair far more vibrant than the Real one, flawless skin and overall perfect in everything she does. Extremely selfless, saint-like, to the point she apparently offered to carry Regulus’ and James’ baby after Hogwarts.
Real Lily would hate her.
She’s still not worse than Other Sirius. Nothing is worse than that. Real Sirius has taken to bullying Other Sirius, daily. Hourly. The Abomination whines about it to Other Remus all the time.
“I want a word,” Other Remus hulks over, ridiculously muscular and, for some reason, with scars on his face.
What the fuck happened to this bloke? Who even is he?
Real Remus slinks back. He was never one for confrontations, their Remus, but apparently this upgraded version is all up for it.
“Listen,” Sirius tells him, because he doesn’t hate the man- sure, he’s not Remus, but he seems like a nice lad. “Why do you put up with that insufferable drama queen? He deserves to hang, and you deserve better.”
“That’s my baby! That’s my Pads,” Other Remus says, suddenly all violent, his eyes turn yellow- what the actual fuck?
But Sirius is already nauseous, stomach turning as soon as he heard ‘baby’ and ‘Pads” coming out of his mouth.
Real Remus cheers from the sidelines as Sirius wipes the floor with Other Remus. The Abomination cries somewhere in the distance, all helpless, until Real James hits him over the head with a candlestick. Other James is too busy sucking Other Regulus’ face to notice anything.
(-)
Other Snape has a split personality, as if someone out there can’t decide if he’s evil reincarnate or a mewling, innocent boy.
It’s jarring to see the shifts, day to day, and Sirius doesn’t know which version he hates more.
He never thought he’d miss Snape, but he does. He misses their Snape, gods damn it, the Real one.
(-)
He finds out his parents- or at least his parents in this world- torture Other Sirius on a daily basis. With the Cruciatus, even.
Other Regulus tells him this, all traumatised.
“Well,” Sirius says, shocked to the core. He almost laughs at the absurdity of it. “To be fair, if I had a son like the Abomination, I’d torture, him, too.”
(-)
Dumbledore is Evil. But stupidly so. Even a random eleven year old saw through his evil plans and humiliated Dumbledore at breakfast. Some smart arse kid, who’s apparently Lord Potter Black Gaunt Slytherin, and talks like an eighty year old politician. Apparently Dumbledore stole his money or something.
“I wonder how Other Voldemort is like,” James says, anxious to consider it.
“I don’t even care,” Peter says. “We should join him. It’s either him, or siding with these lunatics.”
They all nod in agreement. Voldemort can’t be worse- nothing can be worse than Other Sirius and Evil Stupid Dumbledore.
(-)
There’s two Voldemorts.
One is practically a ‘cartoon character’ Remus says. Sirius has no idea what that means.
This Voldemort is Ridiculously Evil.
Insane Bellatrix is his most loyal. For some reason Insane Bellatrix cackles all the time, and mutters about blood and the Cruciatus under her breath. She’s also dressed like a slut.
Real Bella, like the aristocrat she is, would never be caught looking like that in public.
Sirius takes her aside to have a few words with her, and then he finds out apparently she, too, was tortured daily by her parents, like Other Sirius.
“And raped,” she remembers, with a shrug.
Wow, and Sirius thought the Real versions of the Blacks were bad, but these people take the fucking cake.
If the Real Blacks would find out what these Other Blacks are doing to their children, there’ll be hell to pay.
His mum is a right basket case back in his world, insufferable and cruel with her words, unreasonably strict, but if she’d ever find out another version of herself is torturing her children- why, she’d cut that bitch in pieces.
(-)
The second Other Voldemort is some misunderstood good guy with a sob story. He whines about his tragic childhood as much as Other Sirius.
At least this Other Voldemort is still tall, unlike Other Sirius.
“It’s all Dumbledore’s fault,” he ends a monologue. “He made me do all I did. Or-” he checks a list. “Apparently sometimes he simply framed me and I didn’t do anything at all. Also, you can call me Tom, in private,” he invites them.
It’s a tragic state of affairs.
They decide to join Ridiculously Evil Voldemort, simply because he’s the only one that wouldn't protest to murdering everyone. He talks about murder every single day, and Sirius promises him he’ll do anything If he’s allowed to kill Other Sirius.
“Oh, by the way, you should deal with Good Guy Voldemort.”
“With who?”
“You know, the hotter you, the one that’s innocent of all wrongs and calls himself Tom.”
Evil Voldemort has a heart attacks and dies.
(-)
They’re on the run from everyone in that crazy world, when a hooded figure enters their tent.
“Is it you? Is it really you?” the man asks. “Potter? Black? Lupin? Pettigrew?’
“Yes, it’s us.”
The person lowers his hood. It’s Snape. Real Snape. With greasy hair and a large nose, but with intelligent, sharp eyes.
There’s no ‘Victim’ stamped on his forehead, nor is he an evil arrogant bastard, like the Other Snape.
“Fuck, Snivellus! A sane person! I could hug you!”
“I’d rather not,” Snape spits at James. “Alas, I am...relieved to have found you. We need to work together. I came here after you-”
“Of course you did, you berk! You were stalking us, as usually, weren’t you?”
“Yes,” Snape says, unashamed. “I killed the Other me.”
“Good job. I killed the Other me, too,” Sirius boasts. “I took my time with him.”
“I killed Other Lily,” Snape says. “She had to go. She was all ...wrong.”
James sniffles. “She was.”
And then they all sit down, and plan how to kill Good Guy Voldemort and Evil Stupid Dumbledore.

Okay, we all know about the usual warlock-patron dynamics. Creature with god-like powers tries to do their bidding or further their plans through a mortal, who is often going to be troubled by the pact. But, I'm here to propose some alternatives, specially for warlock deals that aren't inherently very harmful to the warlock themself:
This one is pretty typical, but the patron is a family member. If sorcerers can get cool powers from having a dragon grandpa, your fire genasi can have an auntie who is a big fire elemental who is trying VERY hard to connect with her family now, so she gives her nephew an allowance in the form of a Genie Pact
Your patron is undead (and your pact is Undying), but this person is not some power-hungry lich. This is someone you knew in life: A friend, or perhaps a partner. You had fought for a common cause, and they met their death trying to see the end of it, but they refused to leave you alone. Now, within you, their stubbornness has kept them from moving on, and they lend their newfound powers to help you in your common cause.
It's an eldritch entity, a creature beyond your comprehension. Your pact is that of a Great Old One. However, this creature doesn't quite have very concise plans to bring the end of the world- You're actually pretty sure it isn't even from your world. As time goes on, and as you realize their whims seem erratic, you realize that this thing you get powers from is... Probably the cosmic equivalent of a child. Maybe it's still cocooning in the depths of a distant dying planet. And it's incredibly bored. Someday, maybe, they'll terrorize the universe, but right now, they just really want you to be their eyes on another world. Call it enrichment.
Okay, this one is a fiend. Unequivocally so. But truthfully, they couldn't care less about your world, and you're not particularly concerned about what is going down in theirs. They kinda need few things done in your plane, few resources gathered, some people talked to, and between the lines, you realize that your newfound... ally is actually trying to oppose their boss or whatever. This one is a deeply legal-minded fiend, as far as you know: The hellish equivalent to a bureaucrat, after really digging around. Your party is convinced they will turn on you sometime, but eventually you realize you're just helping something that, for a lack of a better word, has to be an infernal-equivalent of an union effort.
That sword you picked was definitely cursed, and the voice within it has been calling to you. Eventually, you lend them your ear, and now you have an Hexblade pact. But this creature isn't bloodthirsty, nor talking to you about soaking their blade with your foes' guts. Truthfully, they hate being a sword. Trapped there as part of a vengeance, perhaps, this thing longs for freedom. And it has been used for evil in the past- Maybe the overabundance of skull motifs in their physical vessel didn't help. But this creature just wants to be able to experience a life that has been robbed from them. Your party may raise an eyebrow at you getting friendly with the possibly-malignant sword, but y'all are just making plans to get them to your favourite restaurant once they're freed.
This Archfey is the descendant of a powerful entity in Feywild side of things. The heir of some great lineage, or whatever is going on within their realm. You frankly don't know, because they're a bit of a... brat. One that kinda longs to escape their situation and get to live something more normal. You only find out this over time, when you realize you're kinda that friend their parents frown about. This entity, powerful beyond comprehension, just really wants to hang out with you and have a board game night with you. They'd love to meet your besties-- I mean, your world-saving allies. And you'd love to give them the opportunity someday, truth be told, but pissing off a fey court seems to be a high price.
You got stranded far into the ocean as a kid, and the rest of the people involved in the shipwreck did not make it out. But you attracted the attention of a group of merfolk, who had barely ever had the chance to meet someone like you. People had told you tales of how they'd drown and eat anyone coming into their territory, but these creatures were instead cooing about you. You're now grown up, and you can call them for power. Your party frowns at the idea of "I kinda got adopted by a sea polycule and I got a cantrip and few other boons about it", but you know they'll have to eat their words when you bring them for dinner- If you can find a way to table them in the middle of the ocean, that is.
the celestial patron is still a dick tho
Feel free to add onto these if you'd like, I'd love to hear concepts >:3

If parasites used to be eliotropes, now it's iops!)
Well, the release of Bestiale is just around the corner, and as a person who was waiting for it and was very upset with how this project looks now, I am going to express my opinion. I apologize in advance if my language is rude - I only have complaints and do not want to offend anyone. Also, in this post, not only the Bestiale series will be mentioned, but also other works by ankama, including animated series, games and comics.
Unfortunately, I do not have the opportunity to get acquainted with many of them now due to studies and health problems, so feel free to point out errors that may be in the text - I will be very grateful. And now - let's go!
Narrative plan:
🥇🥈🥉1) W12 races and favoritism among them;
🥊2) Iops characters;
❗3) What's the problem
🌊4) Bestiale;
🐉5) "Year of Osamodas";
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cf274c3aac2e28814bf673b729e8aa04/8ac38d7b42a6095d-76/s540x810/2f3a34181a0f954f4e2597a8f32bef76f586a380.jpg)
🥇🥈🥉1) Races of the World of Twelve And favoritism among them;
The World of Twelve is a planet, a fantasy world where the events of all (with rare exceptions) stories of the krosmoz universe take place. This world is inhabited by people of many races/classes, which are revealed to varying degrees. Despite how Tot has recently abandoned the old canon and is having fun with fanfiction, I still suggest using marks that will indicate the degree to which we know about a particular race. (Important: the table is quite subjective and was compiled by me as an average consumer of content, so it does not claim to be absolutely accurate. I only write what I see.)
Marks: ❤️ = good, 💚 = not bad; 🩵 = little information, 🖤 = unknown / very little information;
Races:
1) Sadida ❤️;
2) Feca🖤;
3) Cra🩵;
4) Eniripsa🖤;
5) Osamodas🖤;
6) Sacrier 🖤;
7) Pandawa🖤;
8) Ecaflip💚;
9) Ouginak🖤;
10) Xelor🖤;
11) Iop🩵;
12) Enutrof🖤;
13) Zobal/Masqueraider🖤;
14) Foggernaut🩵;
15) Huppermage💚;
16) Rogue🖤;
17) Sram🖤;
18) Forgelance🩵;
19) Eliatropes and Eliotropes (formerly) ❤️;
20) Classless Humans 🖤;
21) Monsters and Others 🖤;
Even though we don't know much about Iop culture, they're literally everywhere because for some unknown reason Ankama loves them almost as much as Elia(o)tropes (Eliotropes were a waste of time and resources - are you ready for this conversation or not). Almost every project in the krosmoz universe has at least one Iop, and they look REALLY bad. I'll explain why I don't like them later, but first I'll give you a list of characters to back it up.
🥊2) Iop Characters;
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e225b616cc9ac17e0dbac83a0934a2fd/8ac38d7b42a6095d-6f/s500x750/9e65da55e724741e6a0002ed3df2406ab08ff067.jpg)
When I say Iops are literally everywhere, I mean it. I want to point out that I haven't read the Dofus manga or the Ogrest manga, so I might be wrong in some places. I apologize in advance. Here's a list of Iop characters and roles, I think that's it:
1) Tristepin. Wakfu series (main characters), Wakfu manga (main characters), OVA (main characters), Waven (main characters). Also appears in other works as Iop God;
2) Goultard. Wakfu series (minor character), Waven (minor character), OVA (background character), Dofus Magna ( main characters), the protagonist of his own short film;
3) Eleley. Wakfu series (minor character), OVA (minor character), Wakfu manga (minor character), Waven* series (main character);
4) Pin. Wakfu series (minor character), Waven* series (main character);
5) Iop God . Wakfu (past incarnation of one of the main characters), Ogrest manga (minor character), Savara* (minor character or npc);
6) Khan. Dofus: Julith (minor character), Dofus mmorpg (npc), Welsh and Shedar* (minor character);
7) Bist. Lance Dur series (minor character), Lance Dur webtoon (minor character);
8) Karn. Bestiale* (main characters), Savara* (npc);
9) Savara. Savara* (main character);
*The featured animation/game product has not yet been released at the time of writing or has been abandoned;
As you can see, there are quite a few iops in important roles.
❗3) What's the problem
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a8e7fcf20c903dc1da077f1c27a50b4/8ac38d7b42a6095d-44/s540x810/eb93df312c86858705070bd78487dc927f490711.jpg)
In short: iops are CtrlC+CtrlV dummies that the creators of the universe play with instead of developing the universe (the same goes for eliatropes/eliopropes).
With rare exceptions, all iops look something like this: proud, very strong, sometimes not particularly smart, fight well and love to do it. Of course, each of them will have some individual traits, but they all remain a set of the above qualities (with rare exceptions). I won't even talk about the design - it's decadence and boredom (especially hairstyles - most often they are LITERALLY THE SAME).
Iops, as a rule, are needed to please the viewer with their image and it works, but apart from their charm (I still don't understand why they are loved so much) they bring nothing else. No lore, no interesting information, which will tell us something new (besides the character itmself). I can forgive mistakes in creating a story, but I don't forgive monotony.
And it would seem: if so, then you can create a character of another race and start revealing other peoples. Give content for fans of another class that are part of your own audience too. Even if it was never the main goal of the show, it would be cool to have some variety even in small amounts, right? NO! Every time we get a red-headed goof created for crowd entertainment. What about the other races? I'm not interested in watching iops - I want to understand what the world of twelve is, we barely know anything about it! Have you even seen the official map of the world of twelve? There are a HUGE number of regions and places that you can ONLY learn something about if you play Dofus/Wakfu/ect.! Moreover, Ankama still creates new classes, but they do not get enough attention, only the basic minimum. What about the old ones? How much, for example, do we know about srams or zobals?
This universe has been around for ten years for sure, and I want to know more about it, about the others, not read another Tot fanfic about some silly-billy! Ankama. What. Is. This.
And don't get me wrong - I don't hate Iops, I actually like some of them. But they get TOO MUCH attention and because they bring so little new to the table, it's very hard to take Iops seriously. You just see wasted potential and every new character starts to irritate you.
Okay, I'm starting to get too angry, so let's move on. Sorry for the bombing.
🌊4) Bestiale;
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c8aa1a9882e1900050f2020e8258e313/8ac38d7b42a6095d-da/s540x810/4b5a7d20e27faedca7210d4aba4b037a1b5310ed.jpg)
Ugh, there will be a lot of complaining here too.
In fact, I didn't have any strong complaints about Karn's character until he was announced as the second main character. I don't mind him having having lots of fans' attention at all - let people enjoy what they like. But the creators of the show already give preference to him - he got the status of the main character, he is in the trailers, has some kind of biography, appears in the game and it is him, and not Yrehn, that we see in the videos advertising the series. Although there was no need for this. At all.
The main character herself appears only in the trailer and apart from the notes from the designer, we know nothing about her at all (well, she also has a special connection with Ilanthe, you could guess about it from the trailer, thanks). Are you serious?? I was expecting a cartoon about this girl saving her friend from a poacher, but it looks like they're making a cartoon about a POACHER guy who gets in the way of a teenage girl. I don't have any expectations for Bestiale, but as an osamodas fan, I was really looking forward to this series specifically because of Yrehn - and now she's being overshadowed by someone who used to only appear in an early poster. And I don't care if he's cool, a good father(yes, fatherhood doesn't mean anything, it's a cheap trick), and can cook - now I'm not going to like this character, even though his type's one of my favorites.
It would have been so much cooler if he stayed a villain (hello, i am a villain enjoyer) - but apparently Ankama lacks guts i guess. Plus, he would have been fresher and more interesting if he was a sacrier or a sram instead of the typical Iop. Remember the sacrier fight scenes? I think those two would have had so much more potential!
Anyway, I just hope Yrehn's arc doesn't get overshadowed. I'm really upset
🐉5) "Year of Osamodas";
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9403a4d42414b1a98c507b6539bc8a4a/8ac38d7b42a6095d-1a/s540x810/37f1d8b3c23b992313f54d74cfe452f628d37649.jpg)
And as a conclusion, I will add that this year Tot declared the year of Osamodas, deciding to start with a series where Yrehn (osamodas) shares the place of the main character with an iop, who is given so much attention that there is no budget left for the animation of the FIRST PROTAGONIST's tail. Oh, and there is also a whole game about iops coming out, where the main character is Karn's daughter, also an iop, obviously (but she also could be any other race since she's adopted) .Perhaps Yrehn will appear there. Happy year of Osamodas, thanks for your attention!))
(Sorry if it's too emotional or too many mistakes ,my English is not so good)

I was thinking and what is stopping Killer from being labeled as god level or at least Demi-god level. So I was thinking what do all the gods and self proclaimed gods have that Killer doesn’t. Ink canonically isn’t actually that strong in battle but the fandom still labels him a god so it isn’t raw power. Nightmare and Dream aren’t ever scripted having abilities to destroy or affect an entire Au effortlessly even they have limits so it’s not that perhaps being a god in the Undertale fandom is all about purpose to be considered a god or god level you must hold domain over something and so I ask what is stoppping Killer from realistically being labeled god level when honestly knowing his lore he should be I feel as if his own strengths are pushed to the side, forgotten, or underestimated becomes Nightmare was able to capture and manipulate him. He’s able to take on both Dream and ink even when their working together and they themself are often labeled as god level Nightmare wouldn’t stand a chance if it wasn’t for the fact that he can only be damaged by one specific thing but that doesn’t meat he can’t be outwit. The closest thing we have to a god in Undertale is Asriel/Flowey that way we can more easily scale things. Flowey after absorbing six souls same power level as Color can still technically be defeated as long as such a being didn’t have determination although it can’t really be compared to pacifist or genocide run human as in one get break the rules of the game to take a second turn doing unknown amount of damage the second human is then able to erase the world a power Flowey doesn’t seem to be able to acces but Asriel can. As a god Asriel has the power to erase the world and easily bring it back same as Chara it’s not a power that just anyone can access but Killer is known to have access to and yes Nightmare was shown to be able to destroy his button but that hardly matters when Asgore does the same and the human can bring it back. We might not have enough data of Killer full abilities since he is know to hold back but seeing how he can fight the entirety of the Star Sanses without breaking a sweat he definitely holds back more then he shows. But, what if his battle with Blue I love him but he isn’t beating Killer. Killer didn’t even loose but the fact that he Blue unintentionally brought up upsetting emotions and feelings along with him acting and speaking just like Papyrus his hardest enemy no wonder the fight went poorly at first after that Blue couldn’t really escape or do anything against him. Sorry for the rant
~Musical Anon.
As Killer stated himself, all depends on what “universe” and interpretation a Player is going with—on who’s the strongest. Fandom often sees people like Dream, Nightmare, Error and Ink the equivalent of Gods—so they are surprised to learn that Ink isn’t really, and taking him down isn’t really that hard. Not to mention Ink has been stated to not jump straight to violence as their first option.
Also relevant to mention that Blue has reasons to hold back in the fight with Killer, and was approaching him with intentions to help—whereas Killer had every intention of making him give up and go away.
Even if that meant playing with Swap’s emotions and fighting ugly and dirty—using underhanded tricks, even including making Blue believe that he was willingly to stop fighting and accept help only to stab him in the eye when he let his guard down.
Killer doesn’t care about the Star Sanses. It’s his job to deal with them, and as he says, he unfortunately is not allowed to kill them. They, in contrast, have shown a desire to understand Killer—why he’s doing this—and help him.
They want to help him, at least Blue and Dream do, and they don’t want to hurt him. Killer has made it clear he won’t hesitate to use that against them, and the most he seems effected by Dream’s attempts at first is that he found it boring that Dream wasn’t doing anything back against him.
In large part, Killer fights very differently than the three of them do. So I’d say that is one big reason why he wins—some may view it as him being stronger or more skilled and intelligent, or it can simply be because the four of them are different people with different experiences and values. Either or, or a mix.
But thinking of Killer is something on a God or Demi-God level would be interesting..

Gimme Gimme Gimme (God!Sukuna X Reader) Pt.6
My Masterlist Series Masterlist Makes me overjoyed that the taglist keeps growing, I love you all and appreciate the support!
The world had been different back then—different in a way that could never be understood by mere mortals. Sukuna’s gaze, as he sat perched upon the throne of his memories, was sharp like a blade, cutting through the fog of time. The weight of his divine nature was not something that could easily be cast aside, and yet, in this strange vessel of flesh he found himself now, it felt like a distant echo.
There had been a time when he had reigned supreme—not just over men, but over the very fabric of existence itself. Time had bent before him, and reality had been his plaything. In those days, the idea of mere “mortals” had been laughable, nothing more than fleeting specks in a vast sea of chaos.
He had been destruction incarnate. He was destruction incarnate.
The memories were coming back now, unbidden. They surged within him like a flood, and in an instant, Sukuna was no longer standing in that familiar room beside you. Instead, he was a towering figure, a god whose presence filled every corner of the universe. The realms, the skies, the seas—all had trembled in his wake.
It was a time before the world had been shaped into its fragile form, before kingdoms rose and fell in the blink of his eye. Back then, destruction had not been a force of nature—it was nature. The very ground beneath his feet had been his canvas, his creations, his undoing.
There had been no concept of time, only the eternal now. The taste of infinite power had been intoxicating, the scent of death and annihilation like the sweetest perfume. Sukuna had reveled in it. With a wave of his hand, mountains would crumble, and with a glance, entire civilizations would cease to exist, their people vanishing in an instant as though they never were.
He could hear the cries of those who had witnessed his fury, feel the reverberations of their terror through the cosmos. They had all begged for mercy—all of them. He had granted none. To him, their screams had been music, their despair a symphony. He was the eternal end, the beginning of every cataclysm. Nothing in the universe was beyond his reach.
But those were the days when he was a god, untouchable and invincible.
A cold wind stirred in the back of Sukuna’s mind, like a ripple in the very fabric of his thoughts. This… this weakness. It had come, creeping into his soul, gnawing at the remnants of his divinity. He had forgotten what it felt like to be small—powerless. The feeble touch of the mortal realm had been a distant memory, yet the sensation of it was becoming more tangible now, more real, with each passing day.
His memories, once vivid and clear, now swirled together like a tangled mess of forgotten ideas. He wasn’t sure what was worse—the degradation of his godly nature or the strange, confusing pull that tethered him to this being—this vessel of humanity.
Was this what he had become? Was this his punishment?
No, Sukuna would not call it a punishment. But there were moments, like now, when his mind wandered. And as much as he loathed to admit it, he found himself drawn back to one thing that had not existed in the abyss of his previous reign: you.
The memories of his past life, when he had been a god of destruction, felt distant compared to the living, breathing reality of his presence now. In his ancient form, everything had felt insignificant next to his power. But now, standing in this world, with its fragile mortals and their trivial emotions, he felt something that resembled... interest.
Sukuna’s lips curled into a bitter smile as he continued to drift through the memories. He saw the destruction he had wrought—the planets cracking under his divine wrath, the skies burning in the aftershocks of his rage. But then, there had been something new. Something strange. A glimmer of light in the chaos. He had not chosen to notice it, yet it was there.
And that was where everything began to change.
He hadn’t noticed at first, not truly. His focus had been on other matters—conquering, destroying, asserting his dominance. But as the threads of time unraveled in his godly mind, he realized: there had been someone among the rubble, standing firm in the face of everything he had obliterated. You. You had been there.
He had forgotten what it meant to be drawn to someone—not for power, not for worship—but for something else. He hadn’t recognized it at first. How could he? His whole existence had been that of a predator. But now, as the memories crept back into his consciousness, he began to understand: it was not your fear that had intrigued him, nor your strength, nor your vulnerability. It was your resistance to him.
Back then, when he was still the God of Destruction, no one had dared defy him. But you—you—had stood before him with fire in your eyes, defying him, mocking him, in ways that should have been impossible. How could a mere mortal carry such audacity?
His fingers clenched as the memories intensified, the weight of them nearly suffocating. He had dismissed you at first—just another mortal to crush under his heel. Yet here, now, in this form, his thoughts constantly returned to you. The touch of your skin, the sound of your voice, the scent of your presence. You had been a spark—a small flame against the inferno of his power.
But even flames could ignite something greater. And even a god like him could be burned.
He paused, his thoughts lingering on you. You were no longer just an amusing diversion to pass the time. No, Sukuna realized with a strange twinge in his chest: You were a challenge. A puzzle he had not yet solved. And that unsettled him in ways that he didn’t care to examine too closely.
The memories began to fade again, slipping back into the shadowed recesses of his mind, but their aftertaste lingered. In the vast, unending expanse of his divinity, one truth remained certain: He would have you.
Whether as a god, as a king of destruction, or as the man he had become—he would have you.
And when that day came, everything else would burn.
~~~
The moon hung low in the sky, casting a pale light over the room as Sukuna stood at the window, his gaze lost in the distance. The weight of centuries, of lifetimes, pressed upon his shoulders as memories began to surface—memories he had long buried, memories that threatened to unravel the thread of control he had maintained.
The room felt heavier now, thicker with the presence of something he couldn’t quite shake. It was as if the air itself had transformed, aligning with his restless thoughts. Something had awakened. Something familiar, yet foreign. Something that had not stirred in millennia.
His mind traveled back, not to the present, but to a time before the endless cycle of destruction had consumed him entirely.
A time when he was still a god.
He stood tall among the heavens, his power unmatched, his form a terrifying force of nature. Yet, even in the midst of his dominion over chaos and destruction, there was a single thread that had pulled at his heart—a thread that led him to her.
Her name—he had whispered it countless times in the quiet corners of his mind, but it felt like a fragile thing now, something distant, slipping through his fingers with every passing moment.
Y/N.
She was not like the others. No, she was something entirely different—a maiden whose presence calmed the storms in his soul, whose laughter was like a balm to the chaos that churned within him.
He had met her in a time long before humanity's existence, when the gods themselves walked the Earth and their influence was felt by every living being. Her village lay in the heart of the vast, untouched forests, where the world still hummed with the purity of the ancient magic. She was a healer, a woman of unparalleled beauty and kindness, whose very existence seemed to embody the essence of nature itself.
Sukuna had come to her without warning, his interest piqued by the rumors of a human who could tend to the wounds of gods. When he first laid eyes on her, he had been struck by something he had never known—something soft and human that he couldn't explain, yet couldn’t ignore.
Her eyes, large and innocent, had fixed upon him, not with fear, but with something else—curiosity, fascination, perhaps even a trace of wonder. In that moment, something shifted in him, something deep, something he had no name for.
But love? Could a god like him even know love?
He had thought it a fleeting infatuation at first, a mere amusement. But as days turned into weeks and weeks into months, he found himself seeking her out again and again, his visits becoming more frequent, his curiosity growing into something far deeper, far more insistent.
Her touch, so gentle, could heal his wounds, even the ones that ran deep, the ones only time had been able to scar over. She had no idea of his true nature—no understanding of the sheer magnitude of destruction he commanded—but she cared for him anyway. She believed in the man, the god he could be, not the monster he had become.
He had never spoken of his true identity to her, never shared the burden of the darkness that lived within him. And she never asked. Instead, she embraced him as he was, even the parts of him that were destructive, chaotic, and bound by forces beyond his control. She never turned away.
But the gods—those who had walked beside him—were never far from him. They saw the bond that was forming between Sukuna and Y/N, and it terrified them. How could a god, whose very nature was to break and destroy, love a mortal so deeply? How could he possibly keep that love from unraveling everything he had ever known?
One night, they came for her.
It happened swiftly—too swiftly. Sukuna, lost in his emotions for the first time in eternity, was too late to stop them. He had felt it in the air, felt the disturbance in the magic as they stole her away from him. And by the time he reached her village, the flames had already consumed it, the ruins of her home nothing but ashes in the wind.
She was gone. Taken. Torn from his world by forces too powerful to fight.
And in that moment, Sukuna, the god of destruction, had tasted true despair. His power—immeasurable, unchallenged—was useless against the higher forces that dictated the flow of fate. He had been powerless. And so, in his grief and rage, he turned his wrath against those who had taken her from him.
The gods had known that if they left him to his grief, he would unravel their carefully constructed world. They feared him, even then, for in his anger, he was unstoppable. But instead of allowing him to fall apart completely, they bound him to his current form, his power stripped down and chained by the very magic that had once made him their equal.
For centuries, Sukuna had walked the earth, a shadow of the god he had been. Yet, even as he wreaked havoc on the world, there was always something missing. There was always a hole within him, a wound that could not heal, no matter how many lives he destroyed, no matter how many kingdoms he reduced to ash.
It wasn’t until he had seen you—the reincarnation of Y/N—that the memories began to return, like a flood he couldn’t stop. In you, he saw the same warmth, the same quiet strength that had drawn him to her all those years ago. And now, in the present, you were just as oblivious to his true nature as she had been, a mere human, unaware of the legacy you carried. You even carried her same name.
He had been drawn to you from the moment he laid eyes on you. It was as if fate had found a way to weave the threads of his past into this new life. And now, you were caught in the web of his desires and his memories.
Sukuna could feel it—your soul resonated with the one he had loved so long ago. Your very presence reminded him of the softness he had lost, the tenderness that once lived in his chest, a memory that had been buried beneath centuries of destruction.
But now, that memory stirred once more, and with it, a dangerous temptation.
In the silence of the night, Sukuna’s gaze lingered on you as you slept, the faint glow of moonlight highlighting the shape of your face. His fingers itched to reach out and touch you, but he restrained himself.
Y/N, he thought, his heart a storm of longing and torment. I can feel you within her. I can feel you within me.
The cycle of destruction he had been bound to for centuries was at an end. He could sense it now—the moment was coming when he would either break free from the chains of his past or allow them to destroy him once more.
"You’re mine again, little one," Sukuna whispered into the night, a dark smile curving his lips. "And this time, I won’t lose you." ~~~ The moonlight filtered softly through the curtains, casting gentle shadows across the room. You lay still, watching Sukuna from the corner of your eye as he stood at the window, his back rigid, his posture unnatural—too still, too focused, as though he were a man on the edge of some precipice, trying to hold onto something he feared would slip away.
You hadn’t said anything yet, unsure of what to make of it. His moods had always been a bit unpredictable, yes, but this… this was different. There was an intensity to him now that you couldn’t quite place, a heavy silence that clung to him, thick and unshakable. The air between you felt charged, like the calm before a storm.
For weeks now, something had shifted in Sukuna—something subtle but undeniable. He had become more distant, his gaze drifting off into the void as if his thoughts were lost in a time far removed from the present. At first, you’d chalked it up to the nature of his power, his weight of responsibility—after all, he was not a man but something ancient, a being bound by forces beyond understanding. You had given him the space, thinking perhaps he needed it.
But tonight, there was something else. His silence wasn’t the usual cold indifference, it was almost... haunted.
You swallowed, glancing down at your hands, unsure how to break the tension that felt like it was slowly wrapping itself around you. “Sukuna?” you ventured, voice small.
He didn’t respond right away. A long, drawn-out moment passed before his head turned slightly, his eyes catching yours. They were different today—darker, with something buried in them, a weight that hadn’t been there before. You weren't sure why, but the look made your heart skip in unease.
“Is something wrong?” you asked, your voice laced with careful uncertainty.
He stared at you for a heartbeat, and for a moment, you saw it—the flicker of something behind his eyes, something almost... vulnerable? But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, masked by his usual calm.
“No,” he replied, his voice smooth but colder than usual. “Why would anything be wrong?”
You hesitated, mind racing. you had seen this side of him before, the part that seemed to hide beneath the surface, but this felt different. Something had changed in him, and now you couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever it was, it wasn’t something you could ignore any longer.
The silence stretched between you both again, thicker now, laden with unspoken words. Your thoughts whirled as you observed Sukuna's profile, his sharp features set in something like a grimace. You could feel the tension radiating from him. It was as though something—or someone—was pulling at him, and you didn’t know if it was a force of destruction or one of longing, perhaps both.
"Sukuna…" you started again, quieter this time, as though afraid to pry too deeply, but unable to stop yourself. "You've been different. Not like you, I mean. You’re... distant." your words felt clumsy, as if you were walking on eggshells, but you pressed on. “You’re not the same as you were before.”
He didn’t flinch. Didn’t react, not really. But there was a sharpness in his gaze now, something that didn’t quite match the stillness of the room.
“You think you know me so well, do you?” His voice was a whisper, but it carried an edge, one you hadn’t heard in days—perhaps weeks. “How very… human of you.”
You blinked, taken aback. There was something in the way he said it that stung, though you couldn’t explain why. You knew he wasn’t exactly one for sharing his feelings, but this... This was different from his usual sarcasm. It was almost as though there was something beneath it—a rawness, an emotion he didn’t know how to contain.
“I only know what I see,” you murmured, hands curling in her lap. "And right now, it’s like you’re not here. Like you’re somewhere else. What’s going on with you?"
For a long moment, he didn’t answer. His eyes flickered to the window again, that far-off look returning to his face. It was as if he were staring into the void, but you could see the way his hands clenched slightly at his sides, the subtle tension in his jaw.
Then, his lips curved into something resembling a smile, though it was dark and empty, like a shadow creeping across his expression. "I’m here.," he said, his tone impossibly soft, yet chilling. "I’m right here."
But even as he said it, something about him felt unreachable. Something that made you wonder if there was a piece of him, buried deep within, that you might never be able to touch. You could feel the pull of whatever haunted him—the storm brewing inside of him that threatened to rise and sweep you both away.
You exhaled, the sense of unease creeping deeper into your bones. You knew something was wrong, but you didn’t know what—or how long you could stand in the eye of the storm before it broke. ~~~ Sukuna invaded your dream once more, but differently this time. He was in his true-form, his body hulking as you sat with him by a flowing stream in the dead of night. It was almost like staring into a memory instead of a dream and you watched as Sukuna turned to you, the hard plains of his face softened as he stared at you, his body relaxed and at peace in your very presence. Like magic the scene changes to a gory one, your own body laying dead on a dirt-road, surrounded by flames and ash. You watched like a ghost of the world as Sukuna appeared and let out the howl of an animal, before his hands lit with flames and his arms hulked, he was ready to destroy. Did... Sukuna kill you?
Hello, spamming every platform with the B&N sale because hey look, my weird, queer dragon books got fancy exclusive editions with sprayed edges (feathers and clouds!)! They're currently chilling in the top 200 on the website just behind SJM, which is surreal. These both come out March 4th, so in just under a month! Emberclaw is a brand-new release, the (somewhat delayed) follow-up to Dragonfall, and I was pretty excited that B&N decided to give the first book a glow up, too. It had a standard hardcover and I know people really like matching sets.
Pantomime comes out in September and is my revised and revamped preferred text of my debut, which first came out all the way back in 2013. Thanks to Dragonfall taking off in paperback, I got the chance to go back to R.H. Ragona's Circus of Magic, which is pretty cool. This was the first YA book with an intersex protagonist in any genre, as far as I can tell, though Micah has now been aged up to 17/18 and it is slightly more adult in this re-release.
A month before Dragonfall's launch the first time, I was a freaking wreck. This time, I am anxious, not least because releasing a trans book in today's climate is, well...it's something. I fly to the US at the end of the month for my little tour to New York, Rhode Island, and Boston, and who knows what will be going on in the country by that point. But there's lots to look forward to, and I've gotten really nice messages from people who love the series. Links if you'd like some pretty copies for 25% off (the code is PREORDER25), and it ends Feb 7th, 2025. Any help spreading the word would be great. You can also pre-order from your favourite indie store, too, if you prefer, or request from your local library.
"In Dragonfall, Lam has forged a fresh and intricate world, a smoldering romance, and a fire-new take on dragons."—Samantha Shannon, New York Times-bestselling author of The Priory of the Orange Tree
Long ago, humans betrayed dragons, stealing their magic and banishing them to a dying world. Centuries later, their descendants worship dragons as gods. But the "gods" remember, and they do not forgive.
Thief Arcady scrapes a living on the streets of Vatra. Desperate, Arcady steals a powerful artifact from the bones of the Plaguebringer, the most hated person in Lumet history. Only Arcady knows the artifact's magic holds the key to a new life among the nobles at court and a chance for revenge.
The spell connects to Everen, the last male dragon foretold to save his kind, dragging him through the Veil. Disguised as a human, Everen soon learns that to regain his true power and form and fulfil his destiny, he only needs to convince one little thief to trust him enough to bond completely—body, mind, and soul—and then kill them.
Yet the closer the two become, the greater the risk both their worlds will shatter.
"What you will find here may be exactly what you love in fantasy: Dragonfall is an intriguing blend of magic, a thief, trickery, and an unexpected dragon." —Robin Hobb, New York Times-bestselling author of Fool’s Assassin
Arcady faces their greatest heist yet: posing as a noble student at the arcane University of Vatra. When the University announces the reinstatement of archaic trials of magic, the ever-penniless Arcady seizes the chance. If they win, they not only prove their worth, but the scholarship will give them more time to unlock secrets and reveal, once and for all, that their grandsire was not the Plaguebringer. Yet grief still leaves Arcady broken, and when they close their eyes, they dream of a certain dragon.
Everen, once the hope of dragons, is now hated by his kind. When he is eventually released from his prison, the Queen is clear: while he may help protect the island from wraith attacks, he is no longer a prince of the realm. As he struggles to find his place in Vere Celene, visions of the past, the future, and tantalizing glimpses of Arcady still haunt him. If he steers the wrong path through fate’s storm, he may never be able to create a future where both humans and dragons live in harmony.
Arcady soon realizes that to survive the rising threats from both their old life and their new one, they must use every trick at their disposal—even magic stolen from a dragon they thought dead. And as time runs out before an ancient danger awakens, Everen must fight his way back to Arcady, earn their forgiveness, and learn what it truly means to be an Emberclaw.
"Pantomime is a fantastical, richly drawn, poignant take on a classic coming-of-age story . . . a vibrant tale told with surety and grace" — Leigh Bardugo
In a land of lost wonders, the past is stirring once more . . .
Micah runs away from a debutante’s life at home and joins the circus, harboring two secrets–one: he was born between male and female, and two: he may have powers last seen in mysterious beings from an almost-forgotten age.
Micah discovers the joy of flight as an aerialist, courting his trapeze partner, Aenea, and confiding in the mysterious white clown, Drystan. He finally feels free. But the circus has a dark side, and Micah’s past isn’t done with him.
Meanwhile, the strange 'ghost' of a woman with damselfly wings whispers to Micah that only he can help magic return to the realm, and he fears she may be right…
Micah has much to learn, and he must do it quickly—before his past and future collide, with catastrophic consequences.
My type? Definetly this type of boys..
But why?
Its easy.. they understand my feelings and mostly have the same or similiar experiences with love like me. Love its weird feeling.. i fell on love only one time and was in relationship two times in whole 15 years old live. (The worst part is it that i never was in relationship with person i realy loved.. i was only because i didin't Wanted Hurt persons who conffessed to me)
I'm so scared of losing someone.. i have many fears and negative feelings coming from love because of that what family i have or what i experienced on my own.. but yet because now i dont have this feeling i feel sad and empty because i can't and dont know how to build normal relationships or even fucking friendships!
And that's why i probably have need to be unhealthy relationship with person who would be obbsesed about me.. because then i would feel love and feelings. Being unloved person and bad threated one is very bad experience and i Hope that there are not that many peoples who went through it.. it's sad..
Then i discovered about yanderes.. firstly in games.. but then i saw Tumblr.. it's new place for me but i feel comfort and understanding here. I can be here myself and post about my trully feelings about nobody knows.. The fact yanderes do exist was suprising to me.. but yet i Wanted be loved by somebody Like this.. i Wanted feel love.. i Wanted feel obbsesed about somebody.. i'm just needy person without love and live in reality who spends free time in internet. I dont know even who i'm. But i wish i could be loved.. maybe in another Universe... Maybe in another World.. but oh god.. just let me be loved child..
I don't really think this works for me, either, honestly. And it's not really what I'm arguing in this post.
You can obviously comment on the white savior aspects of this series and of Aly's character and the ways in which those things are problematic, and I won't disagree with that, but I don't know that this narrative as it is would work if Aly were somehow "part-raka."
Aly being a complete and utter outsider is part of the point. All of the characters before her stayed (primarily) in Tortall or at least were introduced within it before leaving it later on to look at other worlds, but even then, the story isn't truly ABOUT those new worlds as much as it is about the character's journey back (think Daine going through the Realms of the Gods trying to get home, or Alanna going to get the Dominion Jewel so she can return to Tortall). The Trickster duology is ABOUT this new world, it's ABOUT the Copper Isles. But this is a series where readers kind-of expect a connection to Tortall. People still often discuss the books as "The Tortall books" versus the "Emelan" books in order to describe the difference. So in order to go to this new place while maintaining a connection to Tortall, it helps to have a character who is both connected to not just Tortall itself but the characters we have come to know before, and who is new enough that she can discover the world for the readers.
But even beyond the logistics of wanting to make a story in the Tortall universe about a place that is not Tortall, the story's themes kind-of revolve around this idea of NEW PERSPECTIVES. Aly learns who she is by learning to see the world through the eyes of different people. She learns to understand the raka, their history, their current plight, their culture. She learns to understand the crows and their relationships to the raka and the Isles and Kyprioth himself. She even learns to understand the luarin and the Rittevons and THEIR relationship to the Isles. And we often see all of them learning to view their own world differently by seeing it through Aly's perspective. Aly being SO outside of this world and this conflict until she DECIDES to be a part of it gives her a way of viewing it that changes everything for everyone involved. Aly introduces a lot of new concepts to the raka revolution at the same time as she learns to respect all of the things they've ALREADY DONE and are still doing that work better than what she could've come up with. It's Aly who sees Dove as an option and who convinces Kyprioth that Dove is an equally good if not better option for Queen when Sarai leaves, for example.
There's a lot of places in the books where we see Aly having to change how she thinks of things, but we also see Aly changing other people's minds and people AROUND Aly having to argue for new perspectives, too. And a lot of this comes from the fact that Aly herself ISN'T ALREADY A PART OF THIS. But if she's "part-raka" then she's naturally already connected to this conflict, she has a personal stake in it and a personal connection to the raka part of it. She's not learning to care for these people she'd never have even thought of before, she's not changing who she is by immersing herself into a world and a war she hadn't even known existed before.
So, sure, you COULD make Aly "part-raka" or you could've just let the new heroine be Dove herself or any number of other options, but then it's not really the same story anymore, with the same themes and messages. It's a different story. It doesn't necessarily fix the story we have, it just makes a new one. Maybe it'd be better. But it's impossible to know for sure since you can't just make Aly "part-raka" or make Dove the heroine and keep the story itself the same.
I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that Aly being made to leave the Copper Isles a few years into Dove's reign is somehow a good ending for her character. You spend TWO BOOKS, her entire series, watching her come into her own and figure out who she is and what she wants as an adult with her own career and find a family and a home that believe in her and want her because of what she can do, and I'm supposed to somehow be satisfied with an ending where she loses ALL OF IT and gets stuck in a limbo AGAIN, listlessly floating through life because she can't do what she wants to do as a result of someone else's rules and doesn't have the desire or skillset to do something else (and might not be allowed to even if she did), leaving her with zero other options than to spend the rest of her life as nothing more than someone's wife or mother. How empowering.
I don't even buy that it was NECESSARY or realistic given the world we were introduced to. We KNOW how influential Kyprioth is in the Copper Isles, we KNOW how important that prophecy and the people in it are to the raka, and we KNOW how delicate Dove's position is when she takes power. I don't for a MOMENT believe that anyone would really truly consider it the smart sane choice to send away a resource like Aly, someone whose skills are IMMENSELY needed to keep a very new government in power, when it could easily piss off the god who chose her to represent him to his people. Aly is his messenger, he chooses her to see the things he wants her to see, he uses her to move things into place in a way he does nobody else, and I'm supposed to believe that he's stupid enough to think that Dove's government is SO SECURE a measly few years post-revolution that he can just throw away someone like Aly? I'm supposed to believe he'd ALLOW THAT and not step in to ensure it didn't happen even if other people started to come to that conclusion?
I'm supposed to believe that Aly would be considered equivalent to Taybur even though she's never served the Rittevons, is involved in the raka prophecy, and was instrumental to putting Dove on the throne? How is all of this somehow less important than just making sure every single position in the government is only filled by raka? How is it not important for Dove to ensure she has at least a few luarin in there to appease the luarin nobles, especially after the narrative makes such a big deal out of her being both raka and luarin and how it's important not to dismiss one side of her in favor of the other?
I call bullshit. It's a terrible ending just from a normal narrative standpoint because it removes all satisfaction from the ending and the implied future within those novels, but it's also just unbelievable and unrealistic given what we've been told about this world and these people. I love Pierce's works, I do, and I appreciate that sometimes she comes back to stories and feels like she perhaps made a misstep and I see where this may have come from, but I think this is a terrible way to have Aly's story end and I refuse to acknowledge it.
Israeli forces fatally shoot 2x year old Palestinian girl in the head near Jenin.
SOURCE: Defense For Children Palestine, 26th January 2025.
Ramallah, January 26, 2025—Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian toddler near Jenin last night.
Laila Mohammad Ayman Khatib, two, was shot and killed by Israeli forces around 8:30 p.m. on January 25 while she was in the living room in her family’s home in the Palestinian town of Muthallath Al-Shuhada, south of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank, according to documentation collected by Defense for Children International - Palestine. Laila was having dinner with her mother, grandparents, and aunts when sudden Israeli gunfire erupted without warning. Israeli forces fired four bullets through the living room window, one of which struck Laila in the back of the head. Laila’s grandfather carried her out of the house and brought her to Al-Razi Hospital in Jenin, where she received emergency surgery. Laila was pronounced dead around 10 p.m.
“Israeli forces regularly and routinely carry out military operations with complete contempt for Palestinian life,” said Ayed Abu Eqtaish, accountability program director at DCIP. “Little Laila was having dinner with her family when Israeli forces, unprompted, fired live ammunition into their living room, killing her. It is outrageous that the Israeli military has been permitted by world leaders to kill Palestinian children with impunity in flagrant violations of international law.”
Laila’s mother and aunt sustained injuries from shrapnel during the attack, according to information collected by DCIP.
When Laila’s grandfather exited the house carrying her, he saw Israeli snipers stationed in a Palestinian home across the street from their house. No residents of Muthallath Al-Shuhada were aware of an Israeli military presence at the time of the attack, and later learned that Israeli special forces had infiltrated the Palestinian home. Israeli forces remained in the town until about 11 p.m.
Jenin, its refugee camp, and the surrounding villages have been under an ongoing Israeli military attack dubbed “Operation Iron Wall” since January 21, 2025.
Since the beginning of Operation Iron Wall, 16 Palestinians have been killed, including Laila and 16-year-old Motaz Abu Tabeekh. This operation has also been accompanied by Israeli drone strikes, widespread destruction of infrastructure and homes in the Jenin refugee camp, and the bulldozing of roads. Additionally, hundreds of Palestinians families have been forcibly displaced from their homes due to the continued military assault.
Israeli forces have killed eight Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank in 2025, according to documentation collected by DCIP. Five children were killed by Israeli drone strikes and three children were shot and killed with live ammunition.
Having a "I've connected the dots" moment on why Zeus is so affectionate with Apollo, and I don't know why I'd never considered it before that Apollo's youth could be a reason.
Iamblichus, The Life Of Pythagoras (trans. Guthrie)
So there was this sentiment that young boys are the dearest to the gods, and the gods are especially attentive towards their requests. And since Apollo is a perpetual young boy himself, with Zeus being the one to grant him this gift in one version, it makes sense that Zeus has granted so many of Apollo's wishes. He spared Prometheus and Periphas upon Apollo's request even though he was personally offended by them. He agreed to suppress Gaia and Athena upon Apollo's request when it came to the oracular business. He even revived Asclepius to console Apollo despite Apollo's frankly disrespectful reaction to Asclepius' death.
Apollo might be fearsome, powerful, and even reckless at times but when he kneels down in supplication, all Zeus sees is his little boy that he loves so much, and he can't help but give in to his requests (well, most of his requests at least). And as far as the text is concerned, and if I'm interpreting this correcltly, Apollo's youth is interestingly tied to his helpful nature because besides using his own powers to help the humans, Apollo can also help them by supplicating to Zeus on their behalf, as Zeus is more likely to grant a request when it's coming from him.
#Zeus#Apollo#I'm also taking this as an explanation for why Poseidon and Hestia seem to be especially fond of Apollo#he's a very beloved god in general anyway#Apollo Greek god 🤝 Miquella Elden ring: being able to tug at people's heartstrings because of their youth#I think Apollo is very aware of this but he does not misuse it...he is very careful with the requests he makes#and that's probably another reason Zeus is fond of him#Also imagine being the lord of the universe and one of your weaknesses is “dad please 🥺” from your kid#<– this could very well apply to Artemis too as she is also an eternal adolescent and Zeus dotes on her a lot#the text itself seems to be saying that Apollo was depicted as a youth because of his philanthropic nature#and not the other way around#but from a story-telling / mythical world perspective the other way around makes sense#but anyway this was a delightful I've connected the dots moment for me#mine#apollo info#father dearest
i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you
#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what#allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of#the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than#to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do#im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt#take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was#mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their#mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that#explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain#direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in#arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to#engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out#theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive#a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked#picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing#sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example#for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war#is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old#wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for#steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with#especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can#look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never#treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time#but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made#feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them#accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me#yapping#diary
